When people think of weddings, they think of a great time! A great time with a lot of dancing. If you want guests to be dancing than there has to be music. wedding bands and djs

Then there is the big debate - band or DJ? We'd say that everyone has their own preference. Rightfully so. Not only do you have to consider what you prefer, but you also need to consider your budget.

But what if you don't have a budget or what if you need help on deciding between the two. This is our own opinion, so be sure to ask the bridal party and your guests if they have any suggestions or thoughts on what is the best fit for your big day.

Should I Use a Live Band or DJ For My Wedding?

We recommend first thinking what's more important to you. Is it going to be the food that you serve? That you have an open bar for guests? Or that you have great music so everyone is up and dancing during the reception?

The Pros and Cons of Using a Live Band

Let's start with the pros - there's nothing better than live music! You'll not only be getting music but a performance that goes along with it. The band can help set the tone for the night. These days there are so many options for live bands, so you can find the exact style that you're looking for and goes along with the theme and feel for your big day.

Yes, there are some cons with using a live band. What if you and your new spouse have different music taste and can't agree on the perfect band? A live band just might not be for you. Yes, most bands can cover a bunch of genres of music but they will typically specialized in something. You also might be limited to song options. Think 'we only play 80's Billy Joel music' from Step Brothers

The Pros and Cons of Using a DJ

We suppose the pros and cons of using a DJ is very much the opposite for picking a band. Having a DJ opens it up to having a selection of songs at your fingers tips, and you can hear them exactly as you remember them. DJs tend to less expensive, but they have gotten more pricey over the years. Make sure to pick a DJ that you like and one you think can really get everyone excited. A good DJ will be able to read the crowd and understand the best songs to play to keep people on the dance floor. That means a mix of both slow and upbeat jams.

The con of going with a DJ is losing that feeling of a performance and ending up with a one-man-show with a crappy attitude. Most DJs will wow you with their personality, but make sure to build a good relationship. You want to be able to tell them songs you want to hear, songs you DON'T want to hear, and feel comfortable giving them feedback during the reception. Be sure to ask them the type of equipment they use to make sure you are getting the best quality sound as well.

One last thing! DO NOT go for the iPod or computer playlist. What you really need is for some one to help rally everyone and get them excited to dance. Yes, creating and managing your own playlist is inexpensive (basically free), but guests won't feel as obligated to make it onto the dance floor. Unless you have a crazy groomsman is ready to get the party started!
